The City Council of Pontevedra, in collaboration with the Galician Institute for Analysis and International Documentation (IGADI), is organizing the official presentation of the Pontevedra Global City Map, an innovative tool for highlighting the city’s international connections. Attendees will receive a physical copy of the map and can access its digital version at pontevedra.hub.gal.
Belén López, a journalist from Diario de Pontevedra, will present the event, which will feature the participation of Anabel Gulías, Councilor for Equality, Tourism, and Sports of the Pontevedra City Council; Xan Sabarís, journalist and visual design director of the map; Cecilia Novas Garrido, historian in charge of the historical narrative of the project; and Daniel González Palau, director of IGADI.
With the Pontevedra Global City Map, the city emphasizes its international roots and its current significance on the global stage. The initiative highlights Pontevedra’s history and relationships with the five continents, exploring its historical and cultural heritage as well as its global influence on 21st-century urban design. Available in Galician, English, Chinese, Spanish, and Portuguese, the map aims to position Pontevedra as a model among intermediate cities on the global scale.
The map not only reflects the city’s historical and cultural connections but also the richness of its cultural, sports, academic, and business infrastructures, as well as the prominent historical figures who have contributed to Pontevedra’s international profile.
The project, developed by Visit Pontevedra, strengthens the city’s role as a key destination on the Portuguese Route to Santiago and as a point of interest for Tourism 2.0, fostering territorial marketing tools and attracting investment.
